Project Overview

A new 1.8km long turnback facility and additional station platform at Stevenage station was required to reduce demand on the East Coast Main Line (ECML), by connecting the new turnback line to the Hertford North branch line.

Locations

Langley junction to Stevenage station.

Services Undertaken

Permanent Way design from feasibility to detailed design stages via the Network Rail GRIP assurance process and also providing technical support during the construction phase

The feasibility design stage was undertaken to ensure that all stakeholder requirements were cost effectively satisfied

The outline and detailed designs were then developed to further mature the design scope and continue to ensure the most cost effective delivery specification

Technical support was provided throughout the construction phase working closely with the installation contractor

As-built surveys were undertaken to ensure the newly constructed turnback facility was in line with the design
